About Me

I am a landscape and seascape photographer from Norfolk, East Anglia, UK.

Living in the flatlands of Norfolk means that you’ll see a lot of my images featuring coastal and riverside scenes, boats, woodland, and windmills. Unsurprisingly, I have images from trips to locations where mountains, hills and waterfalls feature from areas such as the Peak District, the Lake District, Yorkshire, Scotland and Wales (see the Collections menu).

I occasionally produce some images using intentional camera movement (ICM), multiple exposures, and cityscapes/street but these are likely to be ad-hoc compared to my passion for landscapes and seascapes.

The best of my images will appear on Instagram, VERO and my Facebook page (links at bottom of this page), and the very best will then eventually make it to my Gallery on this site.

Inspiration and Achievements

I have been inspired by a lot of professional photographers such as Nigel Danson and my editing style leans towards a subtle painterly look.

I am a member of the Norwich and District Photographic Society (NDPS) and my images have been on display at their annual exhibitions after Royal Photographic Society (RPS) or equivalent accredited judges have scored the images to the eligible high standard. I am also a regular participant in club competitions which motivates me to improve the impact of my images.

The benefits of being in a club are more opportunities to join other photographers on trips out, learn from others, and generally encourage each other to improve. Observations

We observe that with so many good quality photographs of well-known locations now being shared online, it's very challenging for viewers, and even more so for judges, to recognise the output as something of high value, or different from the crowd.

It can be an "in joke" about... How many more Happisburgh lighthouse shots do we need? or How many more Southwold Pier shots does the world need? Probably not many more, but it's still fun to photograph them and know the image is your own, and even more fun to try and produce something just a little bit different.

Aspirations

One aspiration of mine and some of my fellow photographers is to produce more compelling and interesting images. What I mean by that is different compositions or angles, creating a mood or invoking a feeling from an image rather than just presenting a technically good image - local Pro Photographer Gill Moon is an excellent example of success in this area. I will confess this is something I'm having to push myself to try and think of since it clearly doesn't naturally occur to me!

Blog Posts

I write blogs (click here) regularly where I describe my trips out to capture images, which includes the successes and the fails as I see them.

My blog is something of a journal for me to track my progress and write down my learning. This is useful to me to look back, see if I am improving and also to help me pick images which may have potential for competitions and or exhibitions.
